One of its most dominant features is the Namib Desert that stretches for nearly 1000 km along the Atlantic coast. The Namib Desert is the most dominant feature stretching for nearly 1000km along the Atlantic coast.  They are the oldest deserts and includes some of the highest sand dunes in the world. Because of the extreme heat, the animals have adapted to their environment very well, such as the desert elephant that survive of very little water or shade. The diverse terrain from the desert in the south to the salt pans in the north offer tremendous diversity and is quite unique to Africa.
